Dear Esteemed Members of EMSI,
It is great privilege for me to be unanimously elected as president of electron microscope society of India during AGBM (Feb 2020) at APMC12, Hyderabad. I sincerely thank the past presidents and Executive council members for this opportunity. The society is marching its successful 59th year after inaugurated at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics by Prof. S. N. Bose in the year 1961. Electron microscopy has played vital role in independent India’s development in science and technology. The society has served majorly in disseminating the knowledge and making electron microscopy accessible to all in India. As first order of the business let me congratulate all for successful 12th Asia Pacific Microscopy Conference in very grand manner. Particularly we all thank the team for their unwavering and dedicated efforts which made the event a grand success.
I offer my sincere prayers to all the members and their families to be safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like previous pandemic situation we will come out stronger as nation. During the pandemic many of our members working day and night to develop solution and use of electron microscope for shedding light on the nature of virus, its mechanism of spreading, drug development, detection techniques, etc. Cryo Transmission Electron Microscopy has been used extensively by researcher to study the structure of the virus and how the virus attached to human cells has major breakthrough in understanding this virus.
EMSI organises various conferences and workshops over the years to bring the researchers together to share knowledge and facilities accessible to everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed life style and working style. During the coming time we also arrange more online webinar, online meetings and training, virtual conferences.
Electron microscopy plays vital role in materials characterisation in various academia and industries in indigenizing array of new technologies. There is also a need in indigenizing the various configurations of electron microscopes under the self-reliance program of the country. I also call upon the industries to come in collaboration with academia, R & D institutions to develop make in India SEM and TEM in partnership mode.
Once again I thank all the past presidents, past and present executive council and members of EMSI for this occasion. I take the opportunity to serve the EMSI for increasing membership & popularity to increase the reach of Electron Microscopy to maximum researchers, academia and industries to serve the nation.
Best regards
